Please be respectful of our neighbours
One of the main attractions of staying at Brewers Rest is that is really is a home from home holiday.
The house is set in a delightfully quiet terrace of houses that were built in the 1860s.
Our neighbours are our friends and we would like to keep it that way. Whilst our neighbours are very welcoming and understanding that our guests are on holiday we ask that you be considerate at all times during your stay.
No parties are permitted at the house.
Please keep noise to a considerate level at all times but particularly in the evenings.
When using the rear yard please be respectful of the privacy of our neighbours.
Smoking
Brewers Rest is non-smoking but you may smoke outside. We hope you understand that if further cleaning is required as a result of smoking in the house then we will seek to recover the cost of this.
Living Room
Please leave the light switch nearest the door 'on' as this controls the automatic light outside the front door. The table and floor lamps are voice controlled or can be switched on and off by using the button on the side of the plug.
The cupboard contains cleaning equipment and the stair gates if you wish to use them plus a clothes airer, high chair and travel cot. There is a high placed hook to prevent little ones going inside.
The TV has a remote control and is fitted with Chromecast which enables you to watch programmes and films from many of the online streaming services. Simply open a streaming service and select the 'cast' icon at the top of the screen. The Chromecast operates from port HDMI 1. A DVD player is also available. This operates on port HDMI 2.
The cupboard under the TV houses the electricity meter and consumer unit. Please do not touch this.
DVDs and books are available for your use.
The front door locks by pulling the handle upwards then turning the key or thumb turn towards the frame. A thumb turn lock is fitted to the front door to enable you to leave the house quickly in an emergency.
Candles must not be used in the house.
Kitchen
Crockery and cutlery are in the cupboards and drawers along with pots and pans and other kitchen equipment. You may find some condiments left by us or previous occupiers. Please feel free to use them but we ask you consider replacing anything that runs out.
Cleaning materials must be kept in the high level kitchen or utility cupboards.
A fire blanket is fitted to the rear of the door adjacent to the fridge freezer.
The instructions for the range cooker are in the 2nd drawer to the left. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the correct way to operate it.
Deep-fat frying is not allowed in the house.
Menus for local takeaway/delivery services are in the table drawer.
Utility Room
The washing machine instructions are in the cupboard directly above and on the house tablet. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the correct way to operate it.
Please do not adjust the boiler controls in any way. If you have any problems with the hot water or central heating then please contact the emergency number.
All cleaning materials are kept in the cupboard adjacent to the boiler.
The lights in the utility are automatic.
A night latch lock is fitted to the rear door to enable you to leave the house quickly in an emergency. This can be deadlocked from both inside and outside. The lower 3-bar lock does not work.
A fire extinguisher is fitted to the wall by the back door and a carbon monoxide detector is attached to the wall beside the boiler.
Bathroom
The lights and fan are automatic. A shaver socket is positioned next to the mirror. Please ensure the window is closed when you leave the house.
Landing
A fire extinguisher is fitted to the wall outside the toilet. Smoke and heat alarms are fitted to the ceilings at the top and bottom of the stairs. They occasionally beep to let you know they are operating correctly. If this continues please contact the emergency number.
Bedrooms
The front bedroom has a king size bed and the rear bedroom has full single size bunk beds.
There are USB points adjacent to each side of the master bed and by the side of the bunk beds.
We keep the store in the front bedroom locked.
The rear bedroom window can be opened slightly but is locked to prevent little ones opening it fully. A key is positioned high on the frame should you need to open it in an emergency.
A hairdryer is in the top drawer in the front bedroom.
A selection of games and puzzles are kept in the drawers in the rear bedroom.
A travel cot is kept at the house for tiny guests. Bedding for children this age is very personal so please bring your own if you wish to use it. It has a basic internal mattress of approximate size 65cm x 95cm.
Rear Porch
Please feel free to use the games and equipment we have left. If these are lost or damaged we would be grateful if you replace them.
Rear Courtyard
Please feel free to use the furniture but we ask that it is folded and brought into the porch of an evening.
The alleyway to the rear allows access from the end of the terrace down to Albert Street.
Accidents
We know that accidents happen and much of the time minor breakages can be absorbed into the running costs of the house. If something gets damaged or broken please let us know as soon as you can as it is never a pleasant conversation to have after the event.
Rubbish and Recycling
Please bag your rubbish and place it in the wheelie bin at the rear of the house. Please do not place loose item in the bin. This will is usually collected on a Monday.
Please do not leave rubbish bags in the open as the seagulls will attack them.
If you wish to recycle, centres across the Island can be found here.
Babysitters
Our friend Becca at No.70 holds keys for the house and is available to babysit for you if you would like an evening out. Just knock and say hello!
